BACKYARD JUNGLE

We’re spending more time down south this year and so I am witnessing all of the changes in my backyard. Just a few months ago we had a common late freeze which turned all the tropical plants in the backyard to mush. But now as we have warmer temperatures and afternoon rainstorms, I swear the plants grow a foot a day.

I love what grows down here. I actually don’t know what doesn’t grow down here. Our backyard has lots of banana trees, elephant ears, canna, angel trumpet, jasmine and a lemon tree. Plus a whole bunch of stuff I don’t even know the name for.

Our backyard isn’t very big, but it’s pretty much a jungle. And the bananas are getting so tall that they are giving us some much needed shade—as well as some fruit!

Pictures can’t really show the size of all the plants, but we have a duck in here for scale.
