SAVED A TURTLE

It was my second day in a row that I saw a turtle on my walk around Audubon Park. Turtles aren’t rare there, you just don’t see them on the sidewalk as often. This turtle, however, was on the wrong side of the chain link fence that separated him from the park and the pond he wanted to swim in. I stopped and tried reasoning with a turtle to follow me towards where I had found a gap at the bottom of the fence. It didn’t start out well, but then I think he saw me pulling open the bottom of the fence and we got on the same page. There were some roots and twigs along the way and I used my fingers through the fence to scooch him along. He pretty much lunged into the gap I was pulling on, but was faster than I thought, so he got stuck under there for a hot minute—arms and legs moving about—but then I got it lifted and he headed for the pond.
